An electric citrus juicer is a juicer specially created to juice citrus fruits like oranges, limes, lemons, grapefruits and tangerines. It is especially convenient because it allows you to use a machine to extract the juice from citrus fruits with little effort on your part. Electric citrus juicers are one of two basic types of citrus juicers—electric citrus juicers and manual citrus juicers (citrus press juicers).
Electric citrus juicers are automatic and (obviously) powered by electricity which can be advantageous when juicing large quantities of fruit. Some electric citrus juicers like electric reamers allow you to put in an unpeeled piece of fruit, but most electric citrus juicers require that you peel the fruit before inserting it into the juicer.
Electric citrus juicers, particularly electric reamers, squeeze pulp directly into the juice, meaning it must be strained if you do not like pulp and/or the juicer does not come with a strainer. Moreover, some feel that using electric citrus juicers brings out too much bitterness in the fruit because some of the bitter tasting oils get scraped off the inside of the peel and are blended with the juice.
Electric citrus juicers can be tough to keep clean and in good repair because of their motors and additional moving parts. They can also be harder to store as they tend to be bigger than manual citrus press juicers.
If you are simply looking for overall convenience and speed from your juicer and do not mind having to peel fruit before juicing (in the case of a normal electric juicer, not an electric reamer) or having a less sweet-tasting, pulpier juice, then you might consider buying either an electric reamer or a regular electric juicer. Between the two, an electric reamer is probably more convenient overall.
